Using Social Security to fund Parental Leave???

What do YOU think??

Social Security is NOT a piggy bank!

Senator Ernst has been working with Senator Rubio on a plan to let people collect Social Security benefits early to pay for time off after they have a baby. This might seem like a good idea, but there’s a catch: Parents would have their Social Security benefits delayed when they retire to offset the costs. And it will further erode Social Security as we know it.

The Senate Finance Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy is planning to hold a hearing on July 11, with Senators Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) planning to testify and a yet-to-be determined panel of experts.

We’d like to hear from YOU prior to that hearing!

Are you:(required)

As a business owner, have you had employees who needed to take time off for a serious personal illness, to care for a family member who was sick, and/or the birth/adoption of a new child?

Were you able to provide your employees with paid leave (i.e. provide them with a portion of their wages for a limited time so they could care for themselves or their family)?

If not, did you want to pay them but couldn't afford to?

Have you lost employees because you could not provide paid leave?

Do you think the lack of paid leave has impacted your ability to recruit and/or retain talented employees?

Do you support a paid family leave program in which the cost of the program is shared by the employer and employee (through payroll taxes-about a $1 a week on the employer and employee each)?

Have you ever needed to take time away from work for a serious personal illness, to care for a family member who was sick, and/or the birth/adoption of a new child?(required)

If YES (check those that apply)

If NO (check those that apply)

Are you aware of the plan Senator Ernst is working on, asking workers to use their future Social Security Benefits to pay for parental leave today (lowering their future retirement benefits) while not planning for any other type of paid family leave?
